See not a figment of my imagination.
And see how empty it looks. This is because I listened to my beloved and planted the way he said. Yes I know there is one lonely corn the others didn’t survive.
The two little plants in the container will be moved into the garden they are eggplants and take up one square foot each. I didn’t leave the string I used for marking up. I will just keep lying it down as I want it. Hopefully those bare places will fill out now I have stuffed more seeds in the ground. It rained last night and bless it, it looks like we are in for showers over the next few days so the garden should be ok while I’m away.
i surprised my self by reading about crop rotation and most probably will try and put that into effect at some time to a smaller degree. This bed though will sit as is until it is time to harvest and then I will rethink my planting. This was a truly recycled bed. The outside was an old sandpit we had 4 or 5 years ago. The soil was left over from our landscaping days. The pea wire from rubbish in the garden. So it cost very little to set it up.
The next bed I may not be so fortunate but you never know what the cat will drag in. I have to dig up a dying tree and a boulder first. SO it could be a little while off yet.
I will be off line for a few days so I thought I would give a quick round up of my challenge for the week.
1. Plant something.
Done maybe not every day but when I got going I planted 40 or so seeds.
2. Harvest something.
One pumpkin don’t know whether it’s ready but the vine was dead. I harvest chooky eggs daily.
3. Preserve something.
This is a harder one but I did do some chicken freezing. As well as preparing some food that was also frozen
4. Prep something.
Knitting a scarf
5. Cook something new.
Tried a new cookie recipe. Forgot the baking soda. Nice tasting lumps though will try them with the right ingredients next time!
6. Manage your reserves.
Well this is easier I automatically rotate my reserves
7. Work on local food systems
This one is my vege patch. I have been looking for markets round the area but most still require travel and I am trying to cut back on travel.
So did you guys try anything new?

Must be all our wet weather, but my veggies are growing really fast – however, we have the slugs to contend with now. Today I harvested……one strawberry, straight into my mouth!
