Today was cool and bleak a perfect day for checking the vegetable patch. After pulling out the one weed (drat that nut grass) I took a good look at it. I am a little disappointed as it is slower in taking off then I anticipated BUT it is my first vege patch I have to give myself it time to grow.
But it looks empty and I have been reading about Square Foot Gardening and so I made a snap decision ignoring all the advice my darling K has given me. I marked out the square feet and planted it out further. I am going to have to encourage K to keep his grubby mitts off refrain from touching my garden. I don’t want him weeding out young veges.
It was a pleasant few hours and now I feel a little better. i would like a second bed going in the next 3 or so weeks so that I have a steady supply of veges coming on line. I think three beds should just about do it so as one bed is winding up another bed is just about coming into it’s own. We pretty much eat the same veges throughout the year and the growing period up here allows us to do this. I am trying to line up fruit so that I can start eating that seasonally. There is a couple of hundred dollars there though so it may have to wait a couple of months. It may not seem like a lot but it is a step in the right direction.
I wasn’t going to plant it as we are going away fr a few days but it was also a matter of now or never. The garden holds its moisture pretty well so as long as we don’t get too many hot days and I water it the morning we leave it should cope till we get back. Survival of the fittest and all.

Your first veg patch has got off to a good start – won’t be long before you are enjoying the harvest!!
