Last night we realised we hadn’t heard the 2nd smoke alarm for a while. It is one of those dreadful ones that go off when you open the oven. This realisation occurred as we were trying to put flames out on a piece of meat that had managed to curl up and touch the grill. And smoke was filling the house setting the other alarm off.
So K being the handy type of man he is finds a new battery and opens it up, replaces the old and tests it. One working smoke alarm.
At 4am I was woken up by a piercing scream. I leap from bed trying to figure out what the hell has happened while K manages to open his eye and mumble “It’s the smoke alarm.” before he rolls over and goes back to sleep. Hmm did I say he was useful? Let me qualify that with as long as he is awake and it isn’t 4am in the morning.
I flew out of the room flicking on lights trying to see where it was.
Good news where there is smoke alarm there is not always smoke. Bad news smoke alarms are terribly inefficient at actually waking anyone. Girls slept through it. K 1/2 woke only to ignore it and go back to sleep.
As it turned out the alarm is faulty and kept going off till about 7am when K finally fully awake ripped it down, pulling the battery out and throwing it in the bin. We now have a new smoke alarm so let’s see how we go.
Chickens are all done and we are right for about 4 or 5 weeks now. Poor K suddenly realised the prices are ridiculous and we are now both looking at more growing. I want to get some Australian stingless bees and I can see those mini goats are looking more appealing as I know where we can put both. We may not get huge amounts of honey from the bees like you do from honey bees but I don’t know whether I want honey bees that do sting around my kids.
Decisions decisions. If I have the basics then that’s all we need. Fancy foods are nice but a return to simple will be good.
