Our eating habits are changing drastically. More and more of the food the girls are eating is homemade. There have been a few failures, I can’t change them over to homemade LCMs or museli bars. I may as well have presented them with brussell sprouts the amount of face pulling I had with those. But when I thought about it they have never really eaten museli bars anyway.
The biscuits are normally eaten with gusto and muffins that turn out more cupcake looking well they are eaten as well. I am learning to enjoy cooking more. I did enjoy it but never really spent the time with it and it got to be a chore. Sometimes I still feel that way but less and less I am finding.
Last night was out weekly roast. Every Sunday (well most Sundays) we have a roast, normally with a dessert that follows. The dessert has been in the past bought desserts but this is also changing. We have been making lovely fruit crumbles (apple, peach, mixed fruit) and last night we tried golden syrup dumplings. These were different to the ones I had in my youth but they went down well with the homemade ice cream.
I look at my home menu now and realise we have about 2 months of main meal recipes and that outside of these we don’t eat too many others. I try new ones occassionally but they are only for rare treats IF they are liked. All of these recipes are in my personal recipe book with the ingredients to make them from scratch. I have the ingredients in my cupboard to make any of these recipes when I wish. And that is a good feeling. The idea is to also have in this lovely little book of mine dessert recipes that are quick and easy to make and have their ingredients on hand to do so.
Delicious, healthy (aside from the dessert) and simple what more can anyone wish for? I don’t need to have very fancy dishes to serve up to my family they are nice as a treat but they are rare. The girls love running to the calender to find out what is on the menu for the week. They love to help prepare. My kitchen IS the HEART of my home.
