Picture of Shea Soap
I really enjoyed making this. It has been 2 weeks since I made it and the big block is now cut up. I will wait another few weeks before using it simply to let it get harder. I am tempted though, very tempted.
I didn’t follow a recipe as such I followed some rules.
The breakup for soap is generally
30% – stable/hard
25% – lathering
45% – moisturising
but I went
25% – stable/hard (solidified oil) – 250g
25% – lathering (coconut oil) – 250g
25% – shea butter – 250g
20% – olive oil – 200g
5% – almond – 50g
The Shea butter is exellent to make a hard stable soap as well as moisutrising so it didn’t matter if I dropped the first ratio a bit.
I went here and worked out the other stuff I needed.
Water – 380g
Lye (caustic Soda) – 140g
So all was well. The scraps I have used have been lovely
I will most likely knit a couple of cloths up and send one of the shells to my mother for mothers day.
I am pretty happy with the way I am doing the gifts lately. Miss T had a birthday party and I made a necklace for her friend. They are prayer beads in a Rosemary format but as I wasn’t sure of her belief system. As it was she loved it and thought Miss T was the best. Miss T almost burst she was so proud. She came home and told me no one else made anything for her friend and her friend thought it was really cool. Imagine that me… cool!
Have a great one.

Clever you, making soap! I’ve looked at ‘recipes’ for it and always been to scared to try – great potential for mess & disaster in my hands! Lovely necklace.
