and back again. Twice in one day. That is scary for me. Especially when I can go days without even thinking about blogging.
I think something must be rubbing off on K. I have been baking quite a bit but the last 2 days nothing nahdah. Nothing happening just was going to involve the girls and waited for them and then it didn’t happen.
So today K was nosing round the kitchen looking for the home baked goodies and then muttering under his breath about not having anything decent to eat as he got some potato chips. This from a man who laughs at my attempts and shakes his head wondering what happened to me. It kinda gave me a warm glow.
The second warm glow was when he turned to me and said “Can you make pizza dough from scratch yet? If you can you had better make up a batch.”
This from someone who happily orders out. I think I am in shock. LOL.
He finally realised today why I am baking from scratch. If I have the goods on hand then we save more money. We eat better and we don’t have to worry about it. He has been wondering why I have been doing what I have and I couldn’t find the words to truly explain it. But he said this afternoon how he likes the smell of the house now. He likes how he never knows what he is going to find in the kitchen at any one time. He likes the fact that the cupboards are rarely bare now.
And I am finding more and more pleasure in doing things from scratch. I have the gear to make it easy but I am also learning how to do things without the need for the gadgets. I’ll use them while I have them but it won’t matter if I don’t because I will still have the knowledge.
My house is truly my home.
PS I also whipped up a batch of really yummy and ultra easy museli type bars. And I may add a batch of cookies to that later on as well.

Good for you Bronwen – I started cooking everything from scratch a few years ago because I wanted to know what was in the food, and now feel really ‘yuck’ when I eat processed food. Wish we had a big enough garden for a proper vegetable patch but we grow tomatoes, beans, apples, pears, strawberries, blueberries, and even had four figs last year – will be trying a few more things this year. Keep up the good work!
