and I am going to be really happy. As much as I love my girls I want some time for me. I want the time when I can go to the loo without the door being swung open and the girls are either asking questions, trying to get me to solve a fight or wanting to kick me off cos they REALLY have to go.
It has reached the stage where they are going “Mum I’m bored.”
Crafts don’t do it “I don’t want to do craft”.
They don’t want to go outside and play “it’s too hot”.
The only thing they kinda want to do is be on the pc, watch movies, or be on the Nintendo. Cruel mother that I am though insists on time limits. If it keeps going I give them chores to do. Usually after that they disappear and find something to do. I can find plenty for them to do, whether they like it or not is another matter.
I have decided on 2 new habits this month. Just 2. I am really tired of the house being untidy. I mean I tidy it, but it doesn’t stay that way and by the end of the day well let’s just say *eeek*
It will be a little easier once they are back at school.
So what are these habits?
1. Keep Miss C’s room tidy. Her room gets into a mess. She does try to tidy it so I thought each night when she is asleep I will go in and pick up the last few items. As she gets older she will do more and more.
2. Keep my desk tidy. This one is really hard for me to do. The desk becomes a dumping zone for everyone. Including me. I need it tidy so I can work from it. I cleared everything off of it and now there is a calculator, notepad, diary, 2 pens, my glasses and a coaster for my water. The shelves on the desk need to be tidied BUT I will work on those over time. As long as the main part remains clear I’ll be happy.
It has a roll on effect. When I tidied my desk I had to figure out how to keep it tidy. Reading blogs like Zen Habits, My Simpler Life and others can really help. They come up with fantastic suggestions. The thing to remember is that each person is different and what works for them may not work for you and you need to try and if it doesn’t work you need to modify and try again.
I have a calender and a diary. My calender holds important info I need to see at first glance. If I have an appointment, birthdays coming up, meal for the day while my diary holds the details. So I may have to check the diary to find a phone number for my appointment. For me they work together, always have but for others it may be they only have a PDA or their phone. It varies.
My to do items go in a file that sits beside my desk. Each day I check the calender, then the diary and get what I need out of my action file. My bills I don’t put in there I prefer to have them in line of sight so they have their own special place OFF the main part of the desk.
This is all preparation for when the girls go back to school and I want to concentrate on other things.
