The day before Xmas
and outside of our house
a child was screaming
not over a mouse.
Nope my eldest daughter was bitten by a spider. And The scream was blood curdling. I felt ill hearing it and the blood rushed from my head as I pulled out of the car and flew around to where she was jumping around screaming.
I couldn’t fully understand her she was so hysterical and I couldn’t find out what had happened. So I yelled. not my normal cranky voice but a deep voice that I rarely use now but it would stop a charging horse. (I used to breed and train horses)
It worked the screaming stopped and i was able o find out what happened and I walked her to the house bandageed her arm laid her down with an ice pack on her arm and then phoned 000 (our emergency number). Our neighbour took my other girls while we went to the hospital. We were lucky although she had an immediate reaction lots of swelling and discolouration around the bite (fang marks as the ambulance man said) within a few hours it was normal and we were able to go home.
She was very worried “If I have to stay in hospital will Santa find me?”
Yes
“Will you still have Xmas without me?”
No we will have Xmas with you
And the questions kept coming. The only time they stopped was when she was told we could go home.
Christmas is a special time for me. each year i rejoice that our youngest grows and is healthy and happy in site of all the dire warnings we had about her. This year I looked at my eldest and felt the same thing. It could have so easily been a deadly spider, I am so lucky.
I was spoilt by gifts but my greatest gift wasthat my girls are healthy and with me. So please in amongst your rejoicing enjoy your loved ones too.
PS The dog was finished delighted in by Miss n and promptly named Mitsy!

oh I am so glad to hear it wasn’t a bad spider! it must have been a terrible thing to go through, what kinda spider was it?
Glad it wasn’t worse and that you had Christmas at home all together.
